Taking advantage of an open ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards test session two days before Friday afternoon’s General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, Gus Dean (@gusdean) and his Win-Tron Racing team showed the ARCA scene they have a car capable of winning.
In the morning session, Dean, the Bluffton, S.C. native whipped up the second quickest lap early in the session and maintained the runner-up spot through lunch.
Winding up his No. 32 GREE Cooling Products | Baker Distributing Chevrolet just after 1:00 p.m., Dean maneuvered the quickest lap overall early in race trim before teams elected to switch over to qualifying trim.
Dean and his Jamie Jones led team produced the fourth quickest lap during their mock-up qualifying lap but their lap around the 2.5-mile triangle was hindered by a broken axle.
With Mother Nature invading the Pocono Mountains before the end of the testing session, Dean and his Win-Tron Racing dropped one position in the afternoon – settling for fifth overall and a positive outlook to his third start at the Tricky Triangle.
The 23-year-old was the quickest amongst the Chevrolet brigade.
Gus Dean Quote: “I’m really happy with the performance of our No. 32 GREE Cooling Products | Baker Distributing Chevrolet during the test. Jamie (Jones, crew chief) and the Win-Tron Racing team brought me a super fast race car and I’m excited to think about our chances of winning on Friday afternoon.
“During our mock qualifying lap, I felt something break in the race car and really I feel like that cost us a lot of time. I got out of the gas a lot to keep the car under control. Thankfully, we were able to get it fixed, but couldn’t put up another power lap before the rain came.
“I’ve always been a fan of Pocono and this is probably the fastest car I’ve ever had here. I can’t thank my guys enough for their hard work. We haven’t had much luck this year, but I’d like to think that’s going to change this weekend.
“I’m just thankful for Tradewinds, GREE, Baker Distributing and everyone who makes the opportunity for us to race possible. I’m pumped.”
Next Up: General Tire #AnywhereIsPossible 200 at Pocono Raceway on Fri., June 1.
