Jon McKennedy and Tommy Baldwin visited Victory Lane twice in one weekend recently.
If you caught Tommy Baldwin at just the right time, he would probably candidly admit that his time as a NASCAR Cup Series Owner did not go as he envisioned it; ditto his time in the CAMPING WORLD Truck Series. As someone who grew up on Long Island and saw the great success the Baldwin family enjoyed in Asphalt Modifieds (“Tiger” Tom Baldwin had young Tommy right by his side as he enjoyed a legendary career back in the day). it was only a matter of time before Tommy would go back to his “roots.” After some moderate success with Long Islander Donnie Lia at the wheel, TOMMY BALDWIN RACING and the iconic 7ny appear to be set for a full-scale assault on the NASCAR WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR in 2018.
Enter Jon McKennedy, previously a “hired gun” of sorts who has run for multiple owners. The pairing has literally worked to perfection thus far. The team won the WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR Opener at Myrtle Beach (S.C.) Speedway. Then they turned right around the next day and won at Carraway (N.C.) Speedway. A perfect 2-for-2.
The ICEBREAKER at Thompson (Conn.) Motorsports Park is next. However, you could make a convincing argument that Tommy Baldwin and the 7ny Team has already “broken the ice” and will be a force to be reckoned with in 2018.
